Clint is BJJ in West Michigan. He paved the way for 100's of people to train in our area. When there was nothing, he followed a dream; driving hours to Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, and Elsewhere in order to fine tune his skills. He amazingly did this in tandem with his amazing family and successful career. Along the way he made many good friends including Jorge Gurgel, Carlson Gracie Jr., Marcus Aurelio, Hermes Franca, Robson Moura, and more. He is now the only BJJ black belt in West Michigan, and has the premiere BJJ/MMA school in the area. His personal and team competition record speaks for itself. He is well liked and respected by all his many students, and is hands on in all modes of training. I am proud to train under Clint "Big Dawg" Crabtree. If you ever are in Michigan stop by and check out the gym! Everyone is welcome!

Clint crabtree is one of the best bjj instructors in michigan. If it wasn't for his hard work and dedication to the art of bjj there wouldn't be bjj in west michigan.

I took one of Clint's classes and enjoyed the first three, but one day when the class was small and his GF was not around, he started telling me stories of females students and how he enjoys them outside of class. I never went back and I was kind of afraid because of the way he was holding me in class, it is hard to tell because you are grappling, but I would not recommend any woman attend his classes this guy is a real scary dude.

I just saw Jane's comments and would like to say Clint is a really good instructor and I don't know about women in class, my only comment would be to never sign up for Clint Crabtree 1 year contracts. My husband went to one class after signing up, then he had to not go because his job changed. Anyway to make a long story short, he would not let him out of a 1 year contract after only attending 1 class and paying these random fee's and buying a real expensive uniform. It has been maybe 8 months now and we plan on filing a lawsuit against him in small claims court, it just takes time and trying to raise children and holding 2 jobs it is hard to fight someone or something like this. I would just like to warn anyone to be careful what you sign, whether it is with grbjj.net or any place else. Clint seems very nice in person, but money often times clouds peoples judgment.

"Jane", what's your real name? I remember a woman coming in and training, she would cry and say she didn't like BJJ because of her husband. I'm not sure what that meant, she stopped coming after she sent me semi nude pic and wanted me to send some back and I didn't, this isn't you it's it? Kristi, so I'm taking it you bought a Gi, signed a contract. Now your husband can't attend? Doesn't want to, or can't? Now your saying your going to file a claim against me? For what? Signing contact? I'm sorry you feel this way. Maybe you should try calling me and talking to me?

As for jane, I just checked my phone and I saved those pics u sent, just in case... Now, I can do 1 of 3 things. 1) post them here for everyone to see I'm telling the truth 2) send them to your husband so he can see I'm telling the truth 3) nothing... I think # isn't much fun...

Post her pics. up stupid girl, the girls come to a gym to get laid then change their minds. I even had a relationship with a instructors young GF when he was overseas. Never trust girls who are in a BJJ gym setting, sorry to say that but it always seems they are fooling around with instructors or other guys in class.

Is Clint's school closed? I called many times no answer, also when to the gym and the door was locked and no one answered the door.

Clint is a great instructor. He's very approachable and his integrity is solid and definitely not in question. I've only been taking classes there for a few months; however, it's been a really good experience. He's always giving his best to his students. He takes the time to break down each move and gives very detailed instruction and that is extremely helpful because BJJ is so technical in nature. The atmosphere at the gym is very up beat and positive. I've never felt intimidated by the guys there (even though they could roll me up in a second). They've also given me instruction and helped me to better understand BJJ. My kids have taken classes there as well. That has also been a positive experience. Additionally, I take the Muay Thai classes. Mike is a great instructor and his passion for MT really comes out when he's teaching. Both BJJ and MT are fun and a really hard work-out. I love it. If you live in the Grand Rapids area and are interested in BJJ (gi/no gi), MMA, Muay Thai, Judo, boxing, or some fun fitness classes then I highly recommend that you check out GRBJJ. Thanks.

I don't understand any of these comments against Clint. I've been training at GRBJJ for a year and never once found him to be anything other than kind, respectful, and most of all helpful. If you have a question about anything, he can help you. His instruction is clear, precise, and he always covers why a move would or wouldn't work in any situation. He doesn't spend time on one or two people and neglect the rest. He will focus on everyone's development and make sure they're learning what they need to in order to get better. Moreover, his credibility is remarkable. Ask him who he's trained with and he will be able to supply you with a list of talents very well known around the world. He is a true virtue of Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu and the best BJJ instructor in West Michigan.

I have not personally trained with Clint in a while however I have known him since 2009. I can garuntee there is not a bad thing to say about the guy. Extremely easy to get along with and accommodating to the needs of others. As far as training, he always pushed everyone to become better and refused to let you quit. For those spreading false remarks take that bs somewhere else. And if its that Ranger you're a sorry excuse for a professional and a disgrace to the brotherhood.

I've been training at GRBJJ for almost 4 years. In the time I've known Professor Clint Crabtree, he's been professional, patient and encouraging. His commitment to success in training people the valuable art of BJJ, is demonstrated by his active participation in competition, seminars and using BJJ for improved health and wellness. Great experience, 5 star rating!

Clint is the top instructor in West Michigan. When I met him and started at GRBJJ I was nearly 200 lbs, my heaviest weight. Clint pushed me, would not let me quit. A year and half later I was down almost 40 lbs. He is tough on the mat and tough on people that mess with his friends. When my son was hit by a car a couple of years ago Clint and my team were the first ones at the hospital. I stayed up all night watching my son and CLint made me sleep the next day and sat in our room and wouldnt let anyone wake me. He took a 40 year old wanna be like me and showed me what the sport was about, trained me and brought me in to his team, my family. My 10 year old autistic son says Professor Crabtree is his best friend. CLint trained me and worked with me and challenged me to compete and I have been in three tournaments since then. I started in 2011 and I wouldn't EVER go anywhere else to train. Clints only fault is probably being too trusting of people willing to take advantage of him. He has let so many people train for free or let people "pay later" it's ridiculous. As far as the lady complaining about the contract goes, have you ever been to ANY gym that doesn't require a contract? Bjj or otherwise? Regardless Clint has worked with me on a number of occasions when things got tight. You people that "rolled with him 2 or 3 times" or are upset about money need to get real and get a life. Grbjj osss!!!

Clint turned a kid with no goals or dreams into who I am today and I have him to thank over anyone else in my life. I've always believed in leading from the front, leading by example, and that's because of Clintao. Nothing given, only earned. -Bobby

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a living philosophy which has fundamentally changed my life physically and mentally. I can never thank Clint Crabtree enough for introducing me to the art. Even though I do not train as much as I would like, I anticipate BJJ will be an active part of my life until I can no longer move. Thank you for the 4+ years and ongoing instruction Clint.

I have been training with Clint and our team at GRBJJ consistently for over a year and a half. I also met Clint and trained for a few months back in 2007 before injury and some pretty significant personal issues forced me to sit on the sidelines for a few years. At that time, Clint was nothing but supportive & understanding of my situation and was extremely helpful to me when I had to call it quits. Upon my return in July 2012, to the sport that I have loved (BJJ), has been the ABSOLUTE best experience & choice that I have made in a long time, and I have enjoyed every second I've spent on the mats. What I believe makes Clint's school so special and unique, is the comaraderie, respect, competitive nature and loyalty that Clint's students have for one and other at the academy. And as one of my favorite quotes states from the movie Remember the Titans..."ATTITUDE REFLECTS LEADERSHIP!!" And it doesn't matter what skill level or belt rank...everyone including men, woman & kids are treated with the up-most respect by Clint and his instructors from the minute they walk through the front door! If anyone is looking to better themselves, physically, mentally and learn the amazing art of BJJ, Muay Tai, Judo and the other incredible life changing classes offered at GRBJJ...this is the place to be...and I will be training here, learning, improving, and looking to better myself and my teammates probably till I'm a very old old man!! Thank You to Clint & all of my teammates for "Making Me Better"!! And not just on the mats...but in life!!

I havnt seen him in a few months, but from what I read on FB nothing has changed still an awesome warm hearted academy. and honestly one of the top in the state, Ive trained at a few different places and none that I have experienced top GRBJJ. hes been great to me, and great to my family. Osss.

I travel back to West Michigan often for family and friends. I have dropped in on Clints class several times and enjoyed it. Solid class based on fundamentals. Clint and I have rolled several times and he lets me play my game, not just a beat down. I have seen him roll with the whole class, something a lot of black belt instructors are not really doing in other schools. Great group of guys and a couple high level females that were not shy about rolling with me. I have friended a lot of GRBJJ guys on my FB and keep in touch. Also, Clint has a pretty good rep outside of Michigan as I know because I travel for a living and visit gyms everywhere.

I have trained at grbjj for over a year and I can say for sure, Clint Crabtree is one of the best people I know. As a coach and mentor he always pulls the best out of any student. I know he really cares about my performance. Not only does he want me to be a great fighter but a great person with high character. Clint teaches great practical BJJ that works and is effective at any level. His classes have taught me so much not only about combat but about mental toughness, doing things the right way, and always have fun as well. I know Clint would do anything to help a student on or off the mat, there are not many people I know i can say that about. Great teacher, great classes, great students, great person. Thanks Professor for everything. osss

I have been attending classes for about 8 years. I had never done any wrestling, Jiu Jitsu or MMA before that time. I had gone to a class only to observe my son who wanted to participate. It was the respect and care for the individual and the skill and passion for JJ which Professor Crabtree had that got me involved that night. It is due to those very same factors which has kept me coming all these years. Clint has been nothing but golden to me and my son.

My son wanted to try Jiu Jitsu so we researched our options. After hearing great things about GRBJJ and Clint we opted to go that route. My son was extremely happy with the decision and even more so to be learning right away and hands on immediately. Clint is passionate about what he does and sharing it with others...I would highly recommend him to anyone!

I trained at GRBJJ and took 5 years off. I realized one day that everything I'd ever learned about hard work and grit came from Clint and the team over at GRBJJ. I started back up about 2 years ago and look forward to every class that I go to. We sweat, we get busted open, we go hard but I've never had a roll that didn't start and end with a handshake. If you train in Michigan (especially if you live in the GR area) and you don't train with Clint, you're getting cheated out of money and you're not maximizing your potential.

Audry, Yes there is kids class but teens are on the border of kids/adult class. I would call Clint @ 616-914-5639 or just stop by and watch a class and talk to Clint. The schedule is on grbjj.net

Thanks Ben, I went to 3rd law and found what I was looking for, they seem to have a good program for kids of my age. I will stop by and look at grbjj also soon. Again thanks Audry.

Lol "Audry", I'm glad in less than 24 hours you have found a good program at 3rd law. The only thing is that 3rd law shut down like a year ago. Go play games somewhere else.

As a former student of Clint's, I can attest to the fact that he makes it perfectly clear that if you no longer want to attend classes and get out of your contract, all you have to do is talk to him. I have seen several students let out of their contract simply by talking to Clint. He is a great instructor and makes sure that even the new guys feel at home. My first class he let me tap him with a triangle. It's something I'll never forget.
